Rhonda SG True! True!! I also think I've made enemies out of a few young ones with really bad English and absolutely appalling grammar because a few years back, I got really pissed and asked them what in the world were they doing in school when they were supposed to be learning English! I think it's a huge shame that young Singaporeans can be bad in English because the other Asian countries in the region are working very hard on the language! It's also a shame that given the myriad of opportunities and resources in modern-day Singapore, there can be young Singaporeans with English skills so poor it's really a sheer waste! How can we dream of competing in the international arena like that?! Already here, I feel a bit embarrassed when patients who've been to Singapore ask me, "Why is your English so good? I visited Singapore and couldn't understand the English they were speaking."
choco B SG We're not too bad, Ferret's more prolific than both of us combined Used to be more game for outings, now I'm just ... slack man. :S
elindra SG Same here. And they always tell me it's really wonderful to speak to an Asian who can actually speak English I know I am always typing in Singlish here but that is because I'm lazy
Wanda SG I think those ppl are taking things too seriously. To me, surfing sgforum should be a light-hearted, relaxing thing and definitely not something to get stressed up over.
Rhonda SG I agree that Ferret is very "prolific"! bluejuice, we all started somewhere! I started with Bear and EricDraven encouraging me to attend an sgForums BBQ, back in those days when Bear wasn't mean to Missy Bear yet!
Rhonda SG I type Singlish in here because it's nice to be reminded of home! And jetta and I take it like some kind of joke. I should get a commission from the Singapore Tourist Board and the Singapore Govt. Everytime my patients say, "Oh! You speak very good English!", I'd say thanks and then tell them proudly that "English is my country's first language! You should go and visit - you will never get lost there!" yada yada! I'm always promoting Singapore to the Aussies!
Wanda SG I have an acquaintant who's now like in her 3rd trimester...she's hasn't checked her email or update her blog since she got pregnant...until she replied to my email yesterday. It's like she's just suddenly woke up from her constant fatigue, and sleepiness. It sounded like very uncomfortable for her.
bluejuice SG Well, its not my 1st forum outing in any case.. I just thought if I had a familiar face amongst the crowd, I'll feel a little more at ease yah?
Rhonda SG Your uncle is an angelic man! Actually, a lot of patients here are like that whereas in Singapore, a lot are kiam pak!! The elderly in Singapore are also very dependant, such a huge contrast to the elderly here, who mostly love to be independant and actually WANT to do things for themselves and consider it an insult if you try to do everything for them! They have such awesome attitudes! I have ever pretended I cannot speak a word of Mandarin / Chinese dialects to a few Asian patients before because they were notorious for being dependant on their nurses. If they know I can speak their language, die liao... they will stick to me like leeches, won't let go!!
Rhonda SG There's a very good tui nah shi fu in Tanglin Shopping Ctr who might help! Sometimes, it's not so much overeating as a sluggish digestive system or eating food that we don't know we can't digest well, thus adding to the feeling of bloatedness. For me, the fact that I walk so much more now than I ever did in Singapore helped. That and the fact that before my PC came, I cooked most of my meals and ate healthily. Since my PC arrived, I've been eating junk or not eating at all cause forgot to eat!
choco B SG And now she has countless sleepless nights ahead of her to look forward to I'm ok, just ... lazy I guess. Some evenings are bad hehe. I think I need to buy Birkenstocks for the weekends, my feet ache from walking about. They've swelled - huge like hams and toes look like cocktail sausages lol
elindra SG Well I don't think any of us is snobbish or elitist Maybe we seem snobbish and elitist because of the standard of English???? Also we are not PAP bootlickers but we know the difference between the government and the country And we don't gang up against another person unless they are being unreasonable
Rhonda SG Oh dear! Huuuge body changes! Rest well cause it does make you more tired than usual. Don't go for C-section if you can, k?
